“It is incumbent upon each one of you to engage in some occupation - such as a craft, a trade or the like.  We have exalted your engagement in such work to the rank of worship of the one true God.  Reflect, O people, on the grace and blessings of your Lord, and yield Him thanks at eventide and dawn. Waste not your hours in idleness and sloth, but occupy yourselves with what will profit you and others.”  (Revealed by Baha’u’llah, “Kitab-i-Aqdas”, p. 30)

Harmony and oneness, unity and vigilant conformity with something far greater than our own limited self, is a reflection of the true coherence and actual oneness that exists in the world of creation. Prayer is indeed a testimony to such understanding and realization; it is the way of expanding our mortal abilities and stretching our limited forces to reach and connect with the Source of power and might in the universe.  Prayer attracts divine powers, nourishes our abilities and creates high aspirations, and it supports our actions and endeavors.  Of course, prayer alone is not enough; in order for the divine powers to reach us and assist us, we need to make the effort and have to render our share and play our part well.  Prayer and action go hand in hand. Indeed, the best of prayer, thanksgiving and worship is action and performing a deed which is conducive to goodness, benefit and the betterment of all people that of course includes ourselves and our loved ones.

Every human being is invested with innate potential and capacity to manifest and develop worthy traits and acquire noble perfections, and while the potentials are diverse in degrees and measures, and varied in qualities and kinds, no one is born without such a powerful and matchless gift and capacity.  Albeit, that capacity is concealed within its being and needs to be developed and brought into light, like a blooming and fruit-bearing tree which once been hidden in a seed.  "All that which ye potentially possess, can" Bahá'u'lláh confirms, “...be manifested only as a result of your own volition."

"That man should know his own self and recognize that which leadeth unto loftiness or lowliness, glory or abasement, wealth or poverty. Having attained the stage of fulfillment reached his maturity, man standeth in need of wealth, and such wealth as he acquireth through crafts or profession is commendable and praiseworthy in the estimation of men of wisdom, and especially in the eyes of servants who dedicate themselves to the education of the world and to the edification of its peoples. They are, in truth, cup-bearers of the life-giving water of knowledge and guides unto the ideal way. They direct the peoples of the world to the straight path and acquaint them with that which is conducive to human upliftment and exaltation. The straight path is the one which guideth man to the dayspring of perception and to the dawning-place of true understanding and leadeth him to that which will redound to glory, honour and greatness."   (Revealed by Baha’u’llah, “Tablets of Baha’u’llah”, p. 34-35)

Isn’t this a kind of people whom we really need in our lives and our societies today?  Wouldn’t we all have wished that more of these individuals would exist in the world and arise to contribute in building and carrying forward a civilization which would be the true pride and glory of humanity? Wouldn’t we each wanted and shouldn’t we each aim—resolutely with confidence and resourcefulness, yet humbly with genuine spirit of service and friendship—to be one of those individuals?  To aim high and to endeavor in being of the kind, is the sign of true nobility.  It is a leadership which shall know none but success and glory!

希望收获善良与和平，应该种良好、崇高思想的种籽。一切都首先于我们想到的思想开始然而生长。我们所说明与写到的、一切行为与行动都源于我们心的思维和想象。当然，数不尽的想法就不断地通过我们的思想 ，其中也很多消失；但是，我们占有思考力量的同时，还有能力与自由将把我们的思想转向正确的、崇高的方向； 并具有潜在的才干与势力以通过崇高的原则纪律和管理我们的理想与行动。因此，“一战争的思想出来”，我们有潜在的能力“由一项更强的，即，和平的思想反对它。”被遵循崇高的价值观和原则，理解而接受这观点应该是明确，给与着我们明亮、恩典和前进的远见，“仇恨思想必须被更强大的想法，爱的思想，摧毁。战争的思想使一切和谐、福祉、安宁和满足被毁与破坏。爱的思想建设博爱并导致友谊与和平、稳定和幸福。”

To harvest goodness and peace, we need to sow a good thought.  Everything starts and grows from our thoughts.  The spoken, the written, the actions and deeds all originate in our minds and through thinking and imagination.  Of course so many thoughts come and pass through our minds; but, as we possess the power of thinking, we also have the capacity and free will to turn our thoughts towards the right directions, owning potential abilities to discipline and govern our own visions and actions through lofty and noble principles.  Therefore “When a thought of war comes”, we have the power and ability to “oppose it by a stronger thought of peace.”  Guided by noble values and principles, it is easy and conducive to true dignity and progress to understand and accept that, “A thought of hatred must be destroyed by a more powerful thought of love.  Thoughts of war bring destruction to all harmony, well-being, restfulness and content. Thoughts of love are constructive of brotherhood, peace, friendship, and happiness.”

“别想世界和平是一种无可能到达的理想。为于神圣上帝的仁爱绝没有任何 不可能的事情。只你全心地希望跟世界上所多种的人民建立友谊而引起互相和平的情绪，您的思想—有确信的，心灵崇高的—无疑将传播。您的想法将成为作所有人的希望而增强着引起全人类的关心和心灵的兴趣。”

"What incalculable benefits and blessings would descend upon the great human family if unity and brotherhood were established! In this century when the beneficent results of unity and the ill effects of discord are so clearly apparent, the means for the attainment and accomplishment of human fellowship have appeared in the world", by Baha'u'llah, the Founder of the Baha'i Faith.  In His writings and exhortations, Baha'u'llah has stated, that "True civilization will unfurl its banner in the midmost heart of the world whenever a certain number of its distinguished and high-minded sovereigns—the shining exemplars of devotion and determination—shall for the good and happiness of all mankind, arise, with firm resolve and clear vision, to establish the Cause of Universal Peace. They must make the Cause of Peace the object of general consultation, and seek by every means in their power to establish a Union of the nations of the world."
