首要的目的与意义
The Purpose, The Meaning


万物各具一理,万理同出一源 (朱熹;《四书》)

“Every created thing has a purpose and a cause by which it is created. All causes and reasons originate and come from one common source.”(Zhu Xi; “Four Classics”)

在创造了世界及其万物后,他 [上苍者],通过其自由和至高意志的直接操作,独选人类赋予其认识和敬爱他的独一无二的特性与能力---就那种为整个创造界的驱动力和首要目的的能力。”(《巴哈欧拉圣典选集》,65 页)

Having created the world and all that liveth and moveth therein, He [God], through the direct operation of His unconstrained and sovereign Will, chose to confer upon man the unique distinction and capacity to know Him and to love Him—a capacity that must needs be regarded as the generating impulse and the primary purpose underlying the whole of creation.”(“Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah”, p. 65)

唯一真神显示自己的意图时,召唤人类顺从上帝的意愿,做到诚实和真挚,虔诚和可信,忍耐和仁爱,正直和智慧。他的[上帝的]目的是给每个人披上圣洁品格之装。(《巴哈欧拉圣典选集》,299 页)

“The purpose of the one true God in manifesting Himself is to summon all mankind to truthfulness and sincerity, to piety and trustworthiness, to resignation and submissiveness to the Will of God, to forbearance and kindliness, to uprightness and wisdom. His object is to array every man with the mantle of a saintly character, and to adorn him with the ornament of holy and goodly deeds.”

如果一个人,具有生命礼物的、潜力富有的,通过他创造者的认识不在精神上增长而平行与他物理的生存没有得到灵性的生活,他的生命---虽然物质的先进,也就人没觉悟地、无想到的很快地被物理的死亡结束---会有什么特殊的意义呢?一位获得这样壮观的知识也必定要开发而体现值得他被创作地位的高尚特征,竭力获得美德;否则,公开宣称相信上帝于他的生活无能有任何特有意思的影响。除非信仰者的优秀品行证明他并不就接受了但又一直在天天生活之内确认高尚的原则,有洞察力的头脑、公平的良心和敏锐的视觉怎能在他以信念的名义下露面地遵守任何实践会发现什么优点或观看认识精神界的所有利益呢?

If a human being invested with the gift of existence and rich in potential does not grow in spirit and along with his physical living does not attain a spiritual life through the knowledge of his and her Creator, what would be the meaning of one's life—however materially advanced, yet passing by swiftly and ending by a physical death in a twinkling of an eye?  Whoso attains to such sublime knowledge, should develop and manifest noble characteristics worthy of one's creation, and endeavor to attain moral excellence; otherwise, there would be no real meaning, truth and benefit in just professing to a belief in God.  Unless goodly deeds and growing excellence in one's character and conduct continue to testify to not only one's recognition of the spiritual truth, but also to his and her upholding the lofty principles and standards in day to day life, how could a perceptive mind, a fair conscience and a clear vision find a merit for or would view any benefits in adhering to any practices in the name of Faith?

远见是人视力和理解完美卓越的结果. Foresight is perfection and excellence of the power of clear vision and perceptive sight.

为了发现宇宙的现实和创造界的神秘,了解自然界与所性质的互相关系,人被赐予了智慧能力和理解的力量。这样获得的知识与理解导致人到达所好的,正确的,值得称赞的。在从事这种发现和学习,也是---既我们人的特权又是责任---认识到自己而承认我们的真实与潜力。每一个人同样的被创造而虽然在各自的差异和特殊程度,全人类都具有巨大的能力和潜在的力量,都需要发现,开发。认识了自己而通过不断思考、学习和行动,渐增地得到于我们生活的目的更深的了解;如此,将会越来越发展而我们的自尊心和自我价值将取得真正的意义。到的这样的实现,踏而行走在这么崇高路径上是人类的卓越和完美的开始。

We humans are gifted with the faculty of intellect and power of comprehension—to discover the realities of the universe and the mysteries of the realm of creation, to understand nature and the interconnected relations of every existent being.  The knowledge and understanding thus acquired leads us to what is good and right.  And as we engage in such discoveries and learning, it is likewise both our privilege and our responsibility to know ourselves and to recognize the realities of our own being.  Each one of us is created with great potential and immense capacities, however diverse in kinds and different in measures, which need to be discovered and developed.  Knowing ourselves and gaining ever-deeper understanding of the purpose of our lives—through continuous contemplation, learning and action—will increasingly develop in us a true sense of self-esteem and self-worthAttaining to such a realization and treading such a noble path is the beginning of human perfection.

“Whoso seeks and strives, shall attain the quest; whoso abandons the will and gives up, shall not succeed.  It is the earnest want and endeavor that accomplishes; and that depends on me, rests upon my volition.”(Meng Zi, “Jin Xin”,  Zheng Ju Sheng, 13.3)


正途便是那条导引人到明悟的曙光和真知的黎明处并引导他归于光荣、尊严和伟大的道路。我们珍藏这希望,经由那全智者的慈爱,蒙敬之尘土能被散而清,辨别之能力能被增强,庶几人们能发现他们之被造生存在的目的。在今日,凡能有益于减少盲从和增强视觉的洞察力,都是值得考虑的。此视力乃是真正知识的媒介和向导。真确的,在智慧者眼里看来,理解之准确来自于洞察力之明晰和视力的远见。(巴哈欧拉,《巴哈欧拉书简集》,69 页)

“The straight path is the one which guideth man to the dayspring of perception and to the dawning-place of true understanding and leadeth him to that which will redound to glory, honour and greatness.  We cherish the hope that through the loving-kindness of the All-Wise, the All-Knowing, obscuring dust may be dispelled and the power of perception enhanced, that the people may discover the purpose for which they have been called into being. In this Day whatsoever serveth to reduce blindness and to increase vision is worthy of consideration.  This vision acteth as the agent and guide for true knowledge.  Indeed in the estimation of men of wisdom keenness of understanding is due to keenness of vision.”(Revealed by Baha’u’llah, “Tablets of Baha’u’llah”, pp. 34-35)

灵性

Spirituality & Happiness

“存在之子啊!我用权能之手创生了你;我以力量之指塑造了你;我将荣光本质赋予了你。你要为之满足,不求其余。因为,我的创造是完美的,我的命令是必行的,勿问,勿疑!”(巴哈欧拉;《隐言经》)

O Son of Being! With the hands of power I made thee and with the fingers of strength I created thee; and within thee have I placed the essence of My light. Be thou content with it and seek naught else, for My work is perfect and My command is binding. Question it not, nor have a doubt thereof. (Revealed by Baha’u’llah, “Arabic Hidden Words”)

“You must always be happy. You must associate with joyous and happy people and be adorned with divine morals. Happiness has a direct influence in preserving our health while being upset causes illness. The basis of eternal happiness is spirituality and divine virtue, which is not followed by sorrow. But physical happiness is subject to a thousand changes and vicissitudes.” (Words of `Abdu’l-Baha, 19 June 1912, in New York, “Mahmud’s Diary”)

"这是自策和优秀品行的时候。"
"This is the day for excellence of character and conduct."


富足时须慷慨,困苦时也须感恩。要值得令人的信任,以明亮友善之容待人。作穷人的宝库, 富人的规劝者,贫困者哭唤应答者,你许下诺言的谨守者。判断要公正, 三思而后言。不要对任何人不公正,要对所有的人谦虚柔顺。当如夜行者的明灯,悲伤者的欢乐,干渴者的海洋,苦难者的天堂,被压迫者的护卫。让清白和正直使你的一切行为卓著。做异乡人的家园,痛苦者的慰籍,逃亡者的依靠。当盲人的双眼,迷途者的引导之光。做真理面容上的宝饰,忠诚之额上的冠冕, 正直殿宇中的栋梁,人类躯体的生命气息,正义万军的旗帜, 美德地平线上的星辰,慈润人心土壤的露珠, 知识海洋上的方舟,恩惠天空中的朝阳, 智慧冠冕上的宝石, 当代苍弯中的光亮的光芒,谦虚之树上的果实。

“Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face.  Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, and answerer of the cry of needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all thine acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility.”

谦虚的态度被人提升到荣耀的天堂。
